One of the most prominent figures of German romantic music. In the beginning, wrote exclusively piano compositions (being, maybe, a compensation for the career of a pianist  that was ended due to the injury to his right hand).
The love for the pianist Clara Wieck, whom he was to marry, inspired him to write numerous songs. Later on, he composed four symphonies and a famous piano concerto.
To clarinet, he dedicated magnificent Three Phantasy Pieces.
