FOREWORD

R. Lazić: Scale Studies (Medium level A)

Scale Studies A

These Scale Studies for medium level are a continuation of the volumes with the same titlle for the elementary level. Volume A is destined for pupils of the 1st and 2nd year, and Volume B for these of the 3rd and 4th year of the medium course.
The range of the exercises for scales and chords goes in the Volume A to the high G, and in the Volume B to the high A. The top note of a scale is always its 1st, 3rd or 5th degree.
By practising scales, we are going to coordinate the functions of the tongue and the fingers, to attain equalization in rhythm, sound and registers, to develop our technique – so the scales’ exercises are of varied benefit. We should keep in mind that the scales are not only monotone exercises, but they appear as shorter or longer fragments in many compositions, especially in concertos. Therefore, you should practise them diligently; don’t exaggerate the pace, in order to be capable to check the good quality of sound.
We hope that these Scale Studies will help you to acquire a good technique. That was our wish in working.

MANNERS OF SCALES AND CHORDS PRACTICING

The exercises No 1-4 are the stating of scales and chords, and the exercises No 5 and further present their figurations and breakings.
