The Young Clarinet Virtuoso II

FOREWORD

The Young Clarinet Virtuoso II

The Young Clarinet Virtuoso is an organic continuation of the analogous collection The singing Clarinet, by the same author, Radivoj Lazić.

Four volumes of The Singing Clarinet are conceived as a supplement to his school I Am Studying Clarinet for classes I-IV of the elementary level (see the list on the cover of this issue); four volumes of The Young Clarinet Virtuoso are meant for classes I-IV of the medium level, but can also be used on the higher level of studying.

These compositions, arranged by progressive difficulty, offer besides their instructive purpose also a choice of pieces for stage appearances.

The clarinet part of the pieces signed with R. L. is composed by Radivoj Lazić, and the piano part has been worked out by Vlastimir Peričić; the pieces marked with V. P. are by Vlastimir Peričić.

To my beloved mother, with deep thankfulness

Vlastimir Peričić

Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano

(Homage to Dvorák)

Few authors in this area wrote sonatas and sonatinas for clarinet. Guided buy such a thought, I convinced my dear colleague, professor Vlastimir Peričić, a composer, to write a sonatina for my instrument.

Professor Peričić gladly accepted my request and wrote a sonatina for clarinet and piano, which he dedicated to the great composer Dvorak.

I thought that the future sonatina should not result in an undue technical burden to performers, so that they could pay more attention to the musical content and that it could be played, not only by great artists, but also by secondary school students, and some movements of it by advanced students of Primary music school.

In order to achieve all, professor Peričić wrote sonatina with my frequent assistance. He had an incredible ability to hear his interlocutor, to follow him and to “come down” to his level.

I think that we had absolutely succeeded in our intention. It is a nice sonatina for clarinet and piano, playable and rich in content. It has ever since been a great satisfaction and pleasure to all of us : pupils, students, art performers, teachers, clarinet fans and listeners.

Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano (Homage to Dvorak) is a piece included in my book for clarinet and piano The Young Clarinet Virtuoso II.
