Russian composer, acknowledged by many as one of the greatest and most influential musical authors of the 20th century. From 1910, lived abroad (Switzerland, France, the USA). His early works (famous ballets The Firebird, Petruskha, The Rite of Spring) are inspired by Russian folk music but imbued with new, modern sound-guise. In later works tried to revive the spirit of classicism (so-called neoclassicism), and finally tried his hand at the most modern trends.
